- Assignment: Read "The Twa Corbies" on p. 174 and "Lord Randall" on pp.
170-171. For each poem write explain what happens in the story line and
provide evidence from the poem that supports your summary.

- Review the homework.
- Provide summaries for "The Twa Corbies" and Lord Randall." Identify and
explain lines explaining how the narratives are told in flashback. Providiong
evidence, draw coinclusions about the deaths of the young knight and Lord
Randall. Explain the processes leading to the identification of murderers.
- Assignment: Both "The Twa Corbies" and Lord Randall" are ballads. Based
on your reading of the two poems, develop a list of characteristics
which the poems share.

- Develop a list of tentative characteristics of the ballad form.
- Assignment: Read "Barbara Allan" on pp. 175-176. Explain what happens
in the story line and provide evidence from the poem that supports your
summary. Based on the list of characteristics developed in class, explain what
characteristics of the ballad can be found in "Barbara Allan."

- Including "Barbara Allan," what revisions do we need to make in the
characteristics of the ballad developed yesterday? Review the story line,
explaining how flashback fills in the details of the lovers' relationship. How
is the relationship between the lovers different from that in "The Twa Corbies"
and Lord Randall"?
